§ 14-26. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Food means any raw, cooked or processed edible substance, beverage or ingredient used or intended for use, in whole, or in part, for human consumption.

    Food handler means the owner, operator and manager as well as all other employees of the food handling establishment.

    Food handler's certificate means the certificate issued by the health director upon the demonstration of knowledge of the principles of good sanitation in food handling practices through satisfactory completion of a food handler education program approved by the health director.

    Food handling establishment means restaurants, coffee shops, cafeterias, short order cafes, luncheonettes, school lunchrooms, delicatessens, day care centers, meat markets, abattoirs, meat and poultry processing plants, and all other establishments where food is prepared, handled and/or served at wholesale or retail for pay, as well as all other places in which food is handled, processed or prepared for sale elsewhere.

    Health director means the county health director or his authorized representative.
